The purchase of the Canoe by GRPC was made possible with the tremendous fundraising efforts of the competitive outrigger paddlers. This new boat offers an aggressive design and proven performance in international outrigger events, and will advance community-based events and programs at GRPC. It will be named “Nalowale” indicating speed and elusiveness when racing. Speakers will include administrators and coaches at GRPC, and Ron Williams, community paddling elder and distinguished canoe racer.
The Heihei Moku Boat Race invites beginner and experienced paddlers to compete in a fun, yet challenging environment. At 10am, paddlers can participate in a multiple lap race, with a team relay event at 11:30am. Registration includes entry into races, delicious coffee from Caffé Fanstastico, and a BBQ lunch for $15. Ocean kayak rentals are also available.
