The projected waterway is used by the Gorge Rowing and Paddling Centre (GRPC, and many other user groups) for many of its programs and events. The Marina project in its current state will impact GRPC's ability to operate and provide opportunities for citizens and tourists to recreate in human-powered watercraft. As well, the proposed marina would impede access to the only available passageway for human-powered watercraft to safely transit in and out of the Victoria Harbour.
The size and scope of this project requires meaningful public participation to ensure an open and balanced process. To date, there has been no broad public consultation and concerns have been expressed concerning the transparency of the multi-level government agencies review of this application. GO Rowing and Paddling Association of Canada (GO) and GRPC (a GO Centre) intends to provide as much information as possible about the proposed marina, with the hopes that individuals will become educated and informed.
There is still an opportunity for public input on this issue and the future planning of Victoria's Harbour. To date the marina is a proposal - The developer does not have the necessary approvals, permits or water lot lease to build the marina. There are many issues (ex. Safety, environmental, quality of life etc.) surrounding this proposed development and we strongly urge all citizens and harbour users to become informed about the proposed development and take action as you see fit.
